Hawpe onthese Rocks

Colorado holds all the cards in the NL West, playing the Dodgers and Diamondbacks in this, the final week of the regular season. The Rockies have won eight in a row, including sweeps of LA and San Diego to pull within 1½ games of San Diego for the Wild Card lead. And, Colorado would be a lot closer than 3½ of first in the West if not for Arizona’s four-game win streak.

The Rockies look like a football team. Most of their guys are 6-foot-3 and weigh at least 220. Todd Helton, the one original Rockie dating back to 1997, was an accomplished college QB at Tennessee. Some guy named Manning was there too, but that’s another story.

Most of the attention has come to Matt Holliday and his near Triple Crown season (.337, 36 HR, 131 RBI). Jeff Francis has become the ace and stopper with 16 wins and 152 K’s, but the guys who deserve a lot of credit are the "lunch-palers" Brad Hawpe and Tim Tulowitzki. Hawpe has 27 R, 105 RBI and plays a great RF. Tulowitzki (22) is close to setting a homer record by a rookie shortstop (Nomar Garciaparra had 30 for Boston).

The team is young, has enough speed, balanced pitching and karma to steal a playoff berth. bottom of the NL West.

This final week we recommend a progression bet on Colorado. Destiny is on their side.
