Croom angry dog facing Tide

Navy beating Notre Dame for the first time in 43 years was a truly feel good win for those pulling for the Academy.

Well, there is another feel good win on the slate this week at Mississippi State involving Bulldogs coach Sylvester Croom.

Alabama comes to Starkville and it was no secret that Croom wanted very much to be the Tide coach. He was turned down in favor of Mike Shula, but the burn remains. With Nick Saban trying to come off a tough loss to LSU, this is a golden spot for an upset.

And, we see a few more on the docket.

Louisville +15 at W.Va: Thursday night excitement in Mountaineer Country. This is Louisville’s shot at salvaging the season. Brian Brohm can throw, so a shootout keeps the Cards in this one. LOUISVILLE.

WF +8 at Clemson: The Saturday slate. Classic spot for the visiting Deacs, who play far better as a road underdog. Clemson runs very hot and cold. WAKE.

Penn St +24 at Temple: We’re not saying outright win, but Temple can cover this number and makes things uncomfortable for the uninspired Joe Pa’s. TEMPLE.

Ga. Tech -13½ at Duke: Same situation. Duke should have some incentive after giving Clemson early trouble. Tech will just try to win in Durham on good looks. DUKE.

USF -16 at Syracuse: South Florida went from No. 2 in the BCS to last in the Big East. Giving 16 at the Carrier Dome now is insane. SYRACUSE.

Air Force -3 at ND: If Navy beat Notre Dame, then Air Force certainly will. Consider it an order from supreme command. AIR FORCE.

Alabama -4½ at Miss St: In Croom we trust. Bama looks for an escape. MISS ST.

BC -5½ at Maryland: The Eagles became another former No. 2 last week. Going to College Park as a substantial favorite puts all the value on the upstart Terps. MARYLAND.

Navy +15½ at N.Texas: Don’t blame the Middies for partying all week, but North Texas is the last place Navy wants to go this Saturday. N.TEXAS.

La Tech +36 at LSU: Les Miles can escape SEC losses, but not in spotting 36 points for a game the Tigers don’t care about. LA TECH.

Broncos at Chiefs: KC needs a win badly, especially against the division rival. Denver was embarrassed at Detroit last week. Cutler could be out. CHIEFS.

Jaguars at Titans: The Jags are impossible to figure out, but not the Titans. They just keep covering just about every game Vince Young starts. Somehow, Tennessee finds a way. TITANS.

Falcons +4½ at Panthers: Carolina better play Vinny, for there’s no way this team should be giving points. Warrick Dunn is off a 100-yard game for Atlanta. That could be the difference here FALCONS.

Vikings +6½ at Packers: Green Bay and Favre are red hot, but the last two wins were on the road. Coming back to Lambeau results in the Pack being a large favorite. The Vikes were good with Adrian Peterson last week. VIKINGS

Lions -1 at Cards: We do remember how awful Detroit played at Philly and Washington. But the Lions are on a roll and the Cardinals excel at finding ways to lose close games. LIONS.
