I’m searching for a drug to pick winners

I will be short and sweet, but I just have to stick my two cents worth in this steroids and enhancement stuff.

Every player mentioned in the Mitchell report had the opportunity to testify before it was released, yet they all chose not to appear except Jason Giambi who was basically forced to appear by the commissioner. So if you are given the opportunity to appear and clear your good name and YOU chose NOT TO what complaint do you really have?

Filing a lawsuit only means that you have a lot of cash to spend on a high-priced lawyer. What we are finding out is that steroids and HGH are and were running rampant through MLB and other sports. We are also finding out that the most truthful of the "steroid era" just may be Jose Canseco.

As for myself I don’t care.

Performance enhancing stuff has been used in baseball as long as I can remember. It was just called a different name. In fact the "Mighty Babe" used one almost every day, known then as a shot and a beer. Sometimes he would stay out drinking all night, show up at the ball yard at game time, take no batting practice and hit two or three dingers.

I wish they had some kind of handicapper enhancement stuff that would help me pick a few more winners. Now I would go for that!

Did I really pick the Dolphins last week to finally get a win! Plus, my best bet was the Jets to cover at New England. What was I on when I made those picks? And, what about going against my Steelers in Pittsburgh where they had won all seven of their home games. I hope that Mitchell didn’t read my selections or the commissioner. They just may want to call me in and testify.

It just seems like a long time, but the bowl games really do start this week. They either need to start the college season later in the year or have bye weeks like the NFL. I believe it is just too much time between the end of regular season and the bowl games. I will look at this week’s bowls first then onto my NFL selections.

Thursday, Dec. 20

Navy +9 vs Utah (66): In the old days, it was profitable to bet the dogs in the early bowl games. Most of them were overjoyed to be in a bowl game and gave it their all, while the favorite wanted to be playing in a bigger game. This game is a no brainer for me. I love betting on the academy teams. High-scoring Navy has a shot at an outright win. NAVY.

Friday, Dec. 21

FAU -2½ vs Memphis (67): Both teams can score and have Arkansas St and Middle Tennessee as common opponents, Atlantic beat both, while Memphis lost to both. Atlantic beat a real good Troy team 38-32 as a 15-point dog to get here. FLORIDA ATLANTIC.

Saturday, Dec. 22

So Miss +11 vs Cincy (56): So Miss got ate up by Boise and lost at home to Rice, UCF and Memphis. The Bearcats went 9-3 SU and 9-2 ATS with wins over Oregon State, Rutgers, South Florida, Connecticut and just a five-point loss to WVU. If not disappointed to be here, the Bearcats should romp in this one. CINCINNATI.

Nevada +2½ at N.Mexico (61): Fitting that New Mexico is in the New Mexico Bowl. The Lobos have a superior defense and will be fired up in front of the biased crowd. I especially like the game they played against BYU, losing late by seven and their win at Arizona 29-27 as a 10-point dog. NEW MEXICO.

UCLA +6 vs BYU (47): No UNLV? Maybe next year. BYU played UCLA early in the year, losing to the Bruins in La La Land 27-17. Now they get homefield advantage as the stands will be packed with Cougars faithful. BYU reeled off 10 straight wins after that loss to UCLA, while the Bruins won just two of their last seven. Bruins are in Vegas to party while BYU is here to play. I don’t like that the line went from -4 ½ to -6. I will make a parlay as the UCLA offense may be a little lackluster. BYU / UNDER.

Sunday, Dec. 23

ECU +10 vs Boise St (70): Usually it’s the Rainbow Warriors in this game, but the undefeated Warriors are in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day and that’s a good thing. Both teams can light it up but the situation favors Boise. The common opponent was So Miss. Boise won 38-16 on the blue carpet while East Carolina lost at home 28-21. BOISE ST.

Sunday, Dec. 23

Browns -3 at Bengals: Cincy has the look of a team that has packed it in. The Browns look to be on a mission, going 6-2 SU and 7-1 ATS since their bye week. BROWNS.

Chiefs +4 at Lions: Both teams have gone down the tubes, but this will be the last home game for Detroit. I believe they will win one for the fans, while the Chiefs just can’t wait for the season to end. LIONS.

Jets +8 at Titans: This is the system play as the Jets were all out last week against their nemesis in New England. Teams that have played the Pats have had a rough time of it the following week as the Steelers proved against Jacksonville. TITANS.

I hope you get your Christmas shopping done. If not, good luck.
