LAST WK  SEASON PCT
1-2, 4-2  36-24-3  58-63-2

With a slew of Bowl games this week, I will cut to the chase and skip the NFL. Way too many things can happen in the final week.

Thursday, December 27

Holiday Bowl at San Diego

Texas -2½ vs Ariz St (62): Really not enthralled with either side, but when I made the number on this game I had Texas a 5-point favorite. I can see why the line opened -1½ and now is heading towards -3. TEXAS.

Friday, December. 28

Champs Sports Bowl, Orlando

Mich St +3½ vs BC (55½): Another game that I had higher, figuring BC would be a six-point favorite. It looks like the bettors are in a little quandary since the number hasn’t moved. The answer here is the Boston College defense. BC.

Texas Bowl, Houston

TCU -4 vs Houston (60): These teams look equal so I will take the points and hope turnovers go my way. HOUSTON.

Emerald Bowl, San Francisco

Maryland +5 vs Oregon St (48): I was torn, but watched the Terps in the Boston College win and came away thinking they were tough and well coached. Taking the points appears to be a good bet. MARYLAND.

Saturday, December 29

MEINKE CAR CARE, Charlotte

UConn +2½ vs W.Forest (48½): This will be a good game with the Big East fighting the ACC. Must give edge to Wake laying less then a field goal. WF.

Liberty Bowl, Memphis

UCF -3 vs Miss St (59): Bulldogs from the SEC thrilled to be in this game. If their defense plays the way it did against Kentucky and Alabama they will win. MISS ST (money line).

Alamo Bowl, San Antonio

Penn St. -5 vs Texas A&M (51½): There is an old saying, almost as old as Joe Pa himself. Give Paterno more than two weeks to prepare for a game and he will win. Enough said. A&M will have a home field edge with fans coming from College Station. PENN ST.

Sunday, December 30

Independence Bowl, Shreveport

Colorado +3½ vs Alabama (51½): The Crimson Tide in their last three games scored 12, 14, 10 points as their offense became nonexistent. No Tide for me in this game. COLORADO.

Monday, December 31

Armed Forces Bowl, Fort Worth

Air Force +4 vs Cal (54): After having visions of BCS, Cal went 1-6 SU and 0-7 ATS in its last seven games. I just don’t see the Bears excited here especially after losing the regular season finale to lowly Stanford 20-13 as a -13 point favorite. The Fly boys can score, are happy to be playing in this game and will be highly motivated. AIR FORCE (money line).

Sun Bowl, El Paso

Oregon +6½ vs USF (52): Both teams had their sights on the BCS Championship game, but South Florida started reading its press clippings and fell apart with three straight midseason losses. The Bulls did finish strong, winning their last three games. The dream of the Ducks ended when their QB went down. USF may be out to prove something in El Paso. SOUTH FLORIDA.

Humanitarian Bowl, Boise

Fresno St +6 vs GT (54½): The money has gone on Georgia Tech, moving from -4. I will counter this move and go with the Bulldogs, who just may have a little advantage playing on the blue turf. FRESNO ST.

Music City Bowl, Nashville

FSU vs Kentucky. No firm line at press time due to Florida State’s multiple academic suspensions. A good matchup has turned into a debacle. Back when bowls were really bowls and Lou Holtz was coaching, one of his teams had multiple suspensions. The line zoomed all the way to -17. His team came out with big time pride and won the game outright. If this line goes way up I will take a shot that the Seminoles will come to play. FLORIDA ST

Insight Bowl, Tempe

Indiana +4 vs Okla St (69½): Big emotional game for the Hoosiers, who are high as the Sun Devil sky just to be here. They will go all out to get this win. INDIANA.

Chick Fil-A, Atlanta

Auburn +2½ vs Clemson (47): I will take the Auburn Tigers. Clemson’s high powered offense has struggled against teams with top notch defenses. AUBURN (money line).

NFL

Saturday, Dec. 29

Patriots at Giants: I have no idea what the point spread will be, but I do know that the Pats have everything sewed up. The game means going undefeated in the regular season. Will they play all their guys or will they sit? The Giants will no doubt try to be a giant killer, which makes me want to back the underdog. GIANTS.

Look for the GT on Monday next week with the my remaining Bowl selections. I truly wish everyone a happy, safe and joyful Christmas season.
