Happy New Year!

Celebrate New Year’s Eve for free on the Strip with America’s Party and fireworks. The theme for this New Year’s celebration on the Strip is "The Best is Yet to Come." An estimated 400,000 people will ring in 2008 at the stroke of midnight on Las Vegas Boulevard.

The fireworks display will be accompanied by swing and big band tunes while the pyrotechnics blast from seven hotel rooftops. The show will run just over eight minutes and will include several new fireworks never before seen. The Strip will be closed to traffic as of 5 p.m. and becomes a pedestrian mall for partygoers. Exits off I-15 from Russell Road to Sahara Avenue will also likely be closed.

The party downtown on Fremont Street (The Fremont Street Experience) under the canopy of lights begins at 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve and features music by the Bangles and the Doobie Brothers. Tickets are $60 and you must be at least 18 to attend. The Riders of the Thunderdome will add excitement with their Globe of Death motorcycle show and the giant Viva Vision screen provides entertainment, 90 ft. above the street.

Most of the local’s casinos will be offering casino-wide parties on New Year’s Eve with free champagne toasts, party favors along with various casino and drink specials. Ellis Island Casino includes the casino-wide party and a $2,500 cash drawing at 1 a.m.

Many of the casino lounges are offering special parties on New Year’s Eve like the Disco Dance Party in the Chrome Showroom at Santa Fe Station. The party runs from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. The $25 admission tag includes a champagne toast at midnight, party favors, balloon drop, drink specials and dancing to DJ Kris Cut. Purchase tickets at the Rewards Center.

The Sahara Hotel Casino is offering a New Year’s Eve Buffet Dinner for $12.99 with your Club Sahara card ($15.99 without.)

Several Station Casinos are offering New Year’s Day budget-minded special meals in the Café’s and Feast Buffets. Visit Palace Station, Boulder Station, Texas Station or Sunset Station for a $12.99 Feast Buffet special including carved turkey and Virginia Ham served from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. The Café’s at all locations will be serving sit-down dinners of Tom Turkey or Virginia Ham for $10.99 per person from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Until next time, Happy New Year. Be safe, eat, play and stay well.
