All aboard Patriots’ bandwagon

Seeing the Chargers-Colts game close with Indy an 11-point favorite at the Hilton, you just knew this week’s game at New England would be at least two touchdowns.

In fact, San Diego opened up as a 15½-point underdog, quickly fell to 14½ and is back at 15. It will be interesting to see if the betting public continues to pour its money on the Patriots, even though the uncrowned "greatest NFL team ever" is just 1-6 ATS in their last seven starts.

The books can parlay their glee from San Diego’s easy cover and Jacksonville’s pointspread win over the mighty Pats. The Jags lost 31-20, but good enough against the 14-point line.

The house is worried about the Patriots because of the expected groundswell of support that figures to come in numbers at the Super Bowl. If the Pats make it to Super Bowl 42 in Arizona and cover the double-digit spread (now 13½ at the Hilton), most of America may be on them.

But that’s a few weeks off.

AFC Championship

Chargers +15 at Patriots: It’s asking too much I believe for San Diego to pull off two unlikely victories over double-digit favorites. San Diego won the battle against Indy but may have lost the war thru injuries. Brady & Co. will not be merciful. PATRIOTS.

NFC Championship

Giants +7 at Packers (42): We include the total for a reason. Both teams are at the top of their games. The Lambeau weather is expected to be 4 degrees. No matter. We should see some points on the board with another strong game from Ryan Grant. OVER.
