Biting reality back!

Last week I mentioned a recent run and then immediately was slapped back to reality.

A 1-5 run was spurred by the upstart Blackhawks who scored seven goals in the first period on back-to-back nights, along with 13 total goals in road wins over the Jackets and Predators.

Also worth mentioning, last Thursday seven of eight underdogs won outright and a parlay of those for $10 would have netted a lucky NHL bettor $3,257.80.

Tuesday, Feb. 19

Oilers at PREDS: Hockey is hot in Opryland and so are the Preds (6-3-1) who hold their own at home (19-9-3) and who beat the Wings here a week ago tonight.

Blackhawks at Blues (OVER): The league’s two most schizophrenic teams meet in the Gateway to the West with Khabibulin and Legace likely in net. With the Hawks scoring in bunches of late, at least five goals should be scored.

Wednesday, Feb. 20

Isles at CAPS: Ovechkin had a streak of 23 goals in 22 games while the Isles have had trouble lighting the lamp lately and are slumping (L 7-10). So why not take Caps before Washington’s B-Day?

Avs at DUCKS: The Ducks are 2-0 vs. the Avs, both low-scoring skates. Anaheim has won 5-of-6 and glad 9-game road trip is over.

Thursday, Feb. 21

SABRES at Leafs: Buffalo has sharpened its sabre (7-1-2) lately and may be a small dog over the border. Toronto (24 wins, least in East) still not trustworthy.

BLUES at Kings: The trend is your friend: Blues’ Legace owns the Kings (10-1-1 L12, 2.58 GAA).

Friday, Feb. 22

Oilers at STARS: Surprisingly the second-best in the West (77 points), Dallas has the Oilers number (3-0 season). Edmonton hasn’t been home in 10 days. .

Blues at DUCKS: Back-to-back Stanley Cups are a possibility the way these birds are flying of late. Blues second game in two nights in Lipstick City.

Saturday, Feb. 23

Sens at Pens (OVER): Even if the Pens’ Crosby and the Sens’ Alfredsson are still out, these teams each have enough firepower to total six goals. Malkin has made the vulcanized rubber smack net frequently in February.

Sunday, Feb. 24

Flames at WILD: Wild wonderful in St. Paul (17-9-2) while Flames floundering offensively.

Hawks at DUCKS: Hot Chicago still second-worst in the West (58 points) and 0-2 vs. the webbed ones this season.

Monday, Feb. 25

Flyers at SABRES: Vanek and Co. have two 1-goal wins against the Broad Street Bullies this season and catch Flyers in a funk (seven straight losses).

Maple Leafs at Sens (OVER): Toronto has won two straight after dropping the first three to Ottawa. Picking a winner like pitting ng Fatburger and Tony Roma’s. Total goals were 7,5,6,3 and 6.

(Picks in caps).
