At San Diego
Padres -105 vs D’backs (8)
Arizona took the first of the three-game series last night and is 4-0 when Micah Owings pitches. In fact, 6-foot-5, 220-pound Owings has not allowed more than three runs in any of his starts, while the D’backs have averaged six runs. Arizona has won eight of its last 10 and its 17-6 record tops the NL. It makes you wonder how San Diego could be favored in this 12:55 p.m. start.
The bad news for starter Justin Germano is that San Diego has scored three runs or less in eight of its last 10, going 1-9 in that stretch. The Padres are currently on a five-game slide and have managed just three runs in the last 28 innings. Even worse is San Diego’s 0-4 in Germano’s starts, scoring 1, 0, 2 and 3 runs respectively. The 25-year-old righty faces an Arizona lineup that has been held below four runs just twice. And, Owings is one of baseball’s top hitting pitchers. Figure Arizona for at least 4, which should work against a struggling Padres attack. ARIZONA.
