The Mashantucket Pequots, who own Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut, are now against a plan that would expand Route 2A from the Mohegan Sun Casino, also located in Connecticut, to-and-from Foxwoods Casino.

The Pequots have joined U.S. Rep. Rob Simmons, the Mohegans, local leaders and some residents who all are against the expansion.

The Connecticut Department of Transportation wants the expansion to ease congestion. The plan also widens Route 2 to a four-lane highway through North Stonington and Preston.

Currently, if someone wants to go from Foxwoods to Mohegan Sun or vise versa, it is about a 20-minute drive (depending on traffic) through quite neighborhoods, over the Thames River and through about eight traffic lights.
