Downtown eateries serve bargain-priced specials

Apr 23, 2001 6:19 AM

Getting out and around Las Vegas Valley in search of some of the best deals on the planet, is what "On the Cheap" is all about.

Our travels this week takes us downtown to the Main Street Station and a visit to the lavish Garden Court Buffet.

The buffet has nine action stations in this garden-themed restaurant offering delicious food from around the world. They include American, Chinese, Mexican, Southwestern, Pacific Rim. Designer pizza, pasta, a rotisserie station and a mouth-watering dessert bar.

But here’s the real kicker to this buffet that is offered on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 4-10 p.m.

On Tuesday, dinner guests can enjoy cooked-to order, all-you-can-eat choice T-bone steak in addition to the regular buffet.

Thursday is steak and scampi night featuring filet mignon and sautéed shrimp cooked-to-order, along with the regular buffet. These are my personal favorite nights and you can enjoy these two outstanding buffet nights for just $10.99 each.

Jackie Gaughan’s Plaza Hotel-Casino has an outdoor party called "Jive at 5" under the dome at Fremont Street on Friday’s from 5-8 p.m. They have a live DJ and you can meet the "Naked Angels." They are also serving up $1 Margaritas, Daiquiris and 16-ounce bottled beer.

The Castaways Casino on the Boulder Strip has some nice belly-buster specials.

Take for instance a 20-ounce monster burger for $3.25 or how about one pound of BBQ pork ribs for $3.95. These specials are offered 24 hours a day. However, you must show your club Castaways Slot Card to receive these prices, but if you don’t have a card, it is free to sign-up.

The Wild Wild West serves up some hearty late-night specials from 11 p.m.-9 a.m. They include a short stack of pancakes ($1.29), two eggs, bacon or sausage, hash browns and toast ($1.99) or a New York steak and eggs for just $3.99.

They also just announced some early bird specials offered between 3-6 p.m. for $4.99. These specials come with your choice of soup or salad and any one of the following: spaghetti with Marinara sauce, fettuccini alfredo, eight-ounce New York steak, one pound of BBQ ribs or pork chops.

The Wild Wild West also has a 24-hour special for $4.99 which includes one pound of St. Louis style BBQ ribs served with baked beans and cole slaw. For fifty-cents more you can wash it all down with an ice-cold Bud Draft beer.

To receive these specials show your Wild Card.
