Mega Jackpots strikes twice

May 13, 2008 7:11 PM

by GT Staff | href> The month of May got off to a resounding start as two mega jackpots were hit within days of each other in Southern Nevada casinos.

First, a lucky player won a $437,962 Wheel of Fortune quarter MegaJackpot at Terrible’s Town Casino in Pahrump, then about 10 days later a Texas woman hit the Megabucks jackpot for $21 million at the Palms in Las Vegas.

The Wheel of Fortune winner, Joyce Henry Anderson, a resident of Wibaux, Montana, was in town for the 14th Annual Turbo Diesel Western Regional Rally. The winner says this is the third year she has visited Pahrump for the event.

The retiree had invested only $20 before winning the big one. She says she will consider fixing her RV or possibly purchase a new one with the winnings.

The Megabucks winner, Concetta Thiele, said she has been coming to Las Vegas since 1999 and invested $120 in one $1 Megabucks machine before switching to another, on which she hit the progressive on the first spin.

Her total win was $21,030,664.93, but who’s counting?

Both jackpots will be paid over a 20-year span.

The Megabucks jackpot hadn’t hit since last summer and was the object of several casino promotions around the city.
