HOLLYWOOD PARK

Race 1

This race looks wide open, we will go with No. 2, Gallardo, who ran super on this course winning two in a row last November and December. The only drawback is that his trainer has lost 20 straight off the claim. No. 4, Tap It Light, has won two of three at this distance and did break his maiden here at Hollywood. 2-4

Race 2

In this 6 furlong turf sprint No. 2, Topper Shopper, romped home on this course just 13 days ago and if able to clear he will be gone; if not No. 6, Red Redding, will be flying late to pick up the pieces. 2-6

$2 double for $8

Race 1: 2-4

Race 2: 2-6

Race 3

This nine-horse grab bag starts the big pick six carryover and let me tell you, this is a grab bag! We have fillies and mares traveling 1 1/16 miles on the dirt, and of the ones that have run on the dirt none has come close to running par time for this type of straight maiden race. That will lead us to the ones that have not failed as yet on the cushion track. No. 2, Violet Sky, has run exclusively on the grass and Tyler Baze gets back in the irons and rode this girl OK in February – she will be coming with a late run. No. 8, Mozambique, is a first time starter out of the Carla Gaines barn and she can pop with a first timer. No. 9, Marwah, gets her second start in the states and first on the cushion track, her previous three races where all on the grass. 2-8-9

Race 4

It doesn’t get any easier here but we will attempt to narrow it down to three horses. No. 3, Peace Accord, is usually right there but just can’t seem to get the job done so he gets his sixth straight rider change; this time it will be the risk taker, Rosario, who will try and get this one home on top. If playing the exotics in this race, this guy looks like a good key, first, second and third. No. 2, Run Forest, at 15-1 in the morning line drops into an action spot and if able to get a good position from his rail post he could upset at a big price. No. 8, Scott’s Poppy, gets the big drop by Mitchell and a huge rider upgrade to Bejarano as Mr. Mike pulls out all the stops trying to get the win. 2-3-8

Race 5

It just gets more difficult in this $40k state bred maiden claimer. We will have to narrow this race down to two contenders or the ticket will get too big to play. We will take a shot with No. 4, Mr. Cool, who was sent off at 2-1 in his second lifetime start. He was claimed by Hollendorfer who is 30% first off the claim and gets a big rider upgrade and the extra furlong my help. No. 8, Benchmark Kid, is the one they will have to beat as he looked like the winner in his last race at 7 furlongs, but was beat down the stretch; he has worked since that race and looks ready for the maiden breaker. 4-8

Race 6

We’re still looking for the single but just can’t find one. In here No. 1, Tizmet, gets back on the cushion track which was the spot of his maiden breaker and his rail post will only help his chances in this 1 1/16 route. No. 5, Self Insured, exits a fast heat and is dropped trying to cash. 1-5

Race 7

No. 2, Wake Up Maggie, was sent off at 7-5 in her first try in the states a race in which she broke slow and then got a wide trip only to lose the place by a neck. She gets a longer distance today and looks good. No. 6, Spenditallbaby, ran huge off the layoff when winning the B Thoughtful on April 27, she looks tough once again if she don’t bounce off that big effort. 2-6

Race 8

Yipes, 2yo fillies going 4 ½ furlongs in this $40k maiden claimer – what a way to end the day! It’s no wonder they get so many carryovers in Southern Cal. To be honest any one could jump up and surprise. If you have a ton of extra cash to throw, you could play all in here, but you won’t be alive going into this race so we will just take a shot and single No. 1, Call Aly, whose trainer and jockey combo has already popped with some of these 2-year-olds this year. 1 entry.

$2 pick six for $144

Race 3: 2-8-9

Race 4: 2-3-8

Race 5: 4-8

Race 6: 1-5

Race 7: 2-6

Race 8: 1

GOLDEN GATE FIELDS

Race 1

It’s opening day at the Gate and we’re back to some good fields on the polytrack. The meet could start off on the chalky note as No. 6, Lockitup, and No. 7, Thisonesforbart, look best so we will just play a pick four using both.

Race 2

No. 4, Black Mallou, will be odds-on in here but we will take a stand and try and beat him. We will use No. 1, Patriotic Prince, who broke his maiden here in December and could pick up the pieces if Mallou gets into a speed duel. No. 7, Is It Tuesday Yet, will have good stalking speed from his outside post and jockey Landeros has been riding great. 1-7

Race 3

No. 4, I Beat the Fire, is one of those horses that was claimed at Santa Anita by Morey with the intention of coming here and running on the poly. This one fits with these. 4

Race 4

We have $20k maiden fillies and mares running a flat mile on the grass, so will need to go deep in this early pick four. We will use the Santa Anita shippers No. 3, Forgiving Spirit, No. 5, Midnight Babee, and then the top contenders that have run in Northern Cal – No. 2, My Little Cinder, No. 7, Tigress in Jeans, No. 8, Ktar, and No. 12, Star Protocol. 2-3-5-7-8-12

$1 pick four for $24

Race 1: 6-7

Race 2: 1-7

Race 3: 4

Race 4: 2-3-5-7-8-12

Race 5

No. 5, Latin, has the look of a short price winner and can be used as a single in the late pick four.

Race 6

3-4-5-6

Race 7

Only one way to go here and that is single No. 7, Black Hills Goldie, who is 2 –for-2 on the Golden Gate grass course as his trainer drops trying to cut his losses and maybe someone will bite and claim this girl. If Goldie doesn’t fire it will be either the 11 for 12, so we will play a pair of pick fours using all three. 7-11-12

Race 8

I believe that No. 8, Street Number, wins or is nowhere, so we will single in one pick four and then use the 3 and 4 as back ups in another.

$1 pick four for $12

Race 5: 5

Race 6: 3-4-5-6

Race 7: 7

Race 8: 3-4-8

$1 pick four for $12

Race 5: 5

Race 6: 3-4-5-6

Race 7: 7-11-12

Race 8: 8
