Game 3 at Detroit
(ABC, 5:30 pm PT)
Pistons -5 vs Celtics (176)
The safety blanket has been pulled from the favored Boston Celtics, which now must win at least one game in Detroit to advance to the NBA Finals. Boston is 0-6 on the road in the playoffs as opposed to the regular season when the Celtics owned the league’s best mark (31-10) away from home. In the three losses at Cleveland, the Celtics scored just 84, 77 and 69 points. It doesn’t figure to improve against the Pistons, like Cleveland an excellent defensive team.
The Pistons ended Boston’s nine-game home playoff win streak in Game 2 with a 103-97 victory as a 4½-point underdog. The 200 caused the projected total for tonight’s matchup to rise two points from the 174 of Game 1. It was the first time the Celtics had allowed 100 in the playoffs so expect a greater defensive intensity. The Pistons now have the raucous crowd at the Palace behind them and are the more experience team in postseason play. Home court has been huge in the playoffs and there’s no reason to buck the trend. So we’ll play a parlay: PISTONS/UNDER.
