Game 3 at San Antonio
(TNT, 5:30 pm PT)
Spurs -5½ vs Lakers (191½)
The tide has definitely turned in third-round NBA playoff action with the underdogs covering the spread more than not, evidenced most recently by Boston’s surprisingly easy victory at Detroit. As for this series, San Antonio is faced with a must-win situation down 2-0 in the best of 7 and coming off a humiliating 30-point loss at Los Angeles. Clearly, the Spurs will be motivated, but blowing that 20-point lead in Game 1 could well tell the tale of this series.
The Lakers have been able to score with their starting five and a very potent bench. The interesting aspect is how the linesmakers continue to believe this will be an offensive series. Both games in Los Angeles came nowhere close to the projected totals of 195 and 193½. True the 191½ is the lowest total thus far, but both teams combined for totals of 174 and 172. You have to figure San Antonio to raise their intensity level defensively, which should again keep this total well below the number. UNDER.
