The World Series of Poker got off to a rousing start last weekend, as Nani Dollison won the $2,000 buy-in Texas Hold ”˜Em Limit event. It drew 615 entrants, surpassing last year’s 496 entries. The whopping number of entries upped the prize pool to a record $1.3 million.
Dollison - winner of last year’s Women’s Championship Event - walked away with $441,440, about 40 percent of the total prize pool, and a championship gold bracelet, a long-standing tradition at the WSOP.
Dollison had to fend off John Pires, who went heads-up with her for slightly more than half an hour.
For his trouble, Pires took home $226,000 for a second place finish.
