Iskoe Better Than Spygate

If you check the book review by Howard Schwartz of the famed downtown Gamblers Book Shop on two football stats reports by GT columnist Andy Iskoe. Few people work harder at their craft than Andy, who even inquired this week as to whether GT had an early deadline due to Memorial Day falling on a Monday when the paper goes to press. Now that’s dedication. And, Andy’s guides to college football (16 pages) and the NFL (17 pages) sell for $10 and are second to none for detailed statistical patterns. GT features Andy’s weekly team-by-team breakdown of major league baseball, the NFL and the NBA. Howard gives Andy’s books two thumbs up and we agree. So head to the Slots section and check out his stuff. – Mark Mayer

Hilton Books Kelly Cup Hockey

The Las Vegas Wranglers hockey team is playing Cincinnati in the Kelly Cup Finals of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL). The Orleans Arena is home for the Wranglers and normally the casino resort’s race and sports book puts up lines for the hockey games. However, this time it is the Las Vegas Hilton that has posted lines on the championship series, which stands at 1-1. Game 3 will be Thursday night at Orleans Arena with the matchup a toss-up. Each side is -105 to win with the posted goal total at 5 (over -120, under at even money). Games 4 and 5 in the best-of-7 series will be also be played at Orleans Arena on Friday and Monday night. Games 6 and 7, if necessary, will be in Cincinnati. The Orleans booked last year’s ECHL playoffs, but an official at the resort said that not much betting action was taken.
