by GT Staff | Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals (-200, 8½, LVH): Adam Wainwright (5-2, 2.86 ERA) gets the ball for St. Louis and the right-hander has been stellar in the Gateway City, winning four of his six starts there so far. In his last outing on May 28, Wainwright went eight innings and struck out eight for the win against the Astros. He goes against Bucs’ southpaw Tom Gorzelanny (4-5, 7.38) who has an impressive 1-1 lifetime record at Busch Stadium with a nice 1.98 ERA. One problem with Gorzelanny is his walk total, 37 in just 46 1/3 innings pitched, seven of those coming in just five innings of work earlier this season against the Cardinals.
The site here matters too as after Sunday’s 7-4 win over the Pirates, St. Louis is now an impressive 21-12 in The House That Bud Built this season while the Bucs are just 11-19 away from the Steel City. The Cards are 7-4 in their last 11 and have to keep winning to stay on the heels to stay with the red-hot Cubs who begin a West cost road swing tonight in San Diego against the Padres. And don’t think that they’re not thinking about that… CARDINALS -200.
