Palms right place for La Toya Jackson

Jun 10, 2008 7:01 PM

The Full Monti by Monti Rock III | The celebs came to help those wonderful Maloof boys celebrate the grand opening of Palms Place Hotel & Spa, but the evening’s hit was the fabulous looking La Toya Jackson.

La Toya spilled the beans talking about the Jackson family reunion that would include L, Janet and the five brothers. Also at the Palms was the annual Burlesque Hall of Fame bash. Old fashioned burlesque still has it.

Michael Jackson spent last week in talks with Thomas Barrack, who was the investor that stepped in to save Neverland Ranch. Michael and the rest of the J5 might step right in at Planet Hollywood if Stomp Out Loud leaves, which is only a rumor right now.

Honestly, now that it’s become Planet Hollywood and has replaced the old (and later new) Aladdin, there seems to be a lot of effort into creating one of the most exciting hotel/casinos on the strip. Landing the Jacksons could be the ultimate for PH.

Can we believe Kevin Federline as the Father of the Year? I want to throw up! Seems Prive Nightclub at Planet Hollywood bestowed the title upon Britney’s ex.

The great Yves St. Laurent passed away at only 71. Yves was known for his fabulous tuxedo look for women among so many other creations. Hard to believe but in 1961 while I was in Paris, I met Yves with his partner Pierre, Marisa Paven, Regine (owner of famous nightclub in Paris) and Pierre Armond. They all took me in and embraced this young Puerto Rican hairdresser from New York City.

Did everyone, or should I say did anyone, see the MTV Rock ‘N Roll Video Awards? Yawn, a real snoozer.

Many times I’ve written about my appearances (80 total) on the Johnny Carson Show, but then who’s counting? Because of this Hollywood connection I became friends with Ed McMahon, Johnny’s television sidekick. McMahon, now 85, has come upon some hard times after an accident prevented him from working. Seems his Hollywood home may be facing foreclosure. I would like to see a benefit planned to help Ed.

I caught the preview of my friend Wes Winters at PH’s Triq Lounge in the Miracle Mile. His July 1 opening at PH’s Steve Wyrick Theater should be something.

Everyone’s waiting for Donny and Marie Osmond at the Flamingo, which I think would be a complete sellout. Heck, they could probably sell out every night if it was family only.

On the Las Vegas business side, Studio 8 Ten at 810 S. Las Vegas Blvd is a must-see. This is a non-profit venture initiated by Transition Services, Inc. that provides the tools and space for some 30 artists that will share their creations and talents with all of us.

The grand opening was held last Friday, but if you want some information about this effort call Randy Urgola with Mix Vegas Media (702-293-5649). Also, First Friday (702-384-0092), helps to provide outdoor exhibition spaces free of charge for participating artists in the Las Vegas Art District. Yes, it’s done the first Friday of each month.

Adam and Eve’s "Charity Love Fling" will be held July 11 at Prive, to benefit New Vista Community. This group also helps the intellectually challenged.

Golden Rainbow’s 22nd annual Ribbon of Life, will be held June 14-15 at Paris Las Vegas and will benefit Southern Nevadans affected by HIV/AIDS. For info and reservations regarding this most worthy cause, call 702-384-2899.

Martin Stein, who I’ve known and seen around Las Vegas for the last few years, has just opened his own firm, Ink Boutique Public Relations (702-285-2873). Martin has been an award-winning journalist for more than 15 years and is the company president. Boutique, I love. PR, I love.

What a combination! Tell him Monti sent you.

My old and dear friend, Lorna Luft, will be appearing June 20-22 at the Suncoast. Her tribute to mom, Judy Garland, is a must see.

It’s nice to see Lisa Kline back doing public relations at the Tropicana. Lisa had left the Trop a while back to join another firm. Welcome home.

Contrary to rumors, Michael Jackson is neither living with Wayne Newton nor staying at the Palms. I have heard that Paris Hilton is in town again regarding a new show with a title of "My New BFF."

Who wants to be her best friend? Get out of town, please.

Paris could always hook up with Sarah Larson, George Clooney’s ex. All the ladies are hoping George is on the prowl again, I’m sure. While we’re waving goodbye to Paris, we can say so long to "Spamalot" at the Wynn following a nice run.

I know I mention food a lot, but my job is to pass along info you can consume.

So, Bistro Divino at the Holsum Design Center (241 W. Charleston Blvd.) has some great Italian specialties. Scott Randall and staff have come up with a great variety of pasta, salad dishes and gourmet pizzas.

And, for dessert, the cannoli is just about the best to be had.

Did I hear weddings? The Reverend Monti is here to make yours a memorable event.

And, sadly, he’ll also do divorces if necessary.
