Macau revenues affected by earthquake

by Ray Poirier | Just how strongly the earthquake disaster has affected travel to Macau hasnt been established but according to a news agency gaming revenues reached $1.16 billion or 31% higher than in May of 2007.

This was the smallest percentage growth recorded in recent periods.

The incremental growth from April was 2.1%, well below the growth rates exhibited in January through April.

Some cited the days of mourning held in adjoining provinces for the tragedy in Sichuan Province as a reason for a decline in growth percentages.

The news agency said Stanley Hos SJM properties was the leader in market share at 28%, following by Sands Macau, operated by Las Vegas Sands Corp. (LVS) with 25%. Wynn Resorts Ltd. (WYNN) held third position with 17.4% while Crown Macau, owned by Melco Crown Macau came in with 14%. Trailing were Galaxy at 8% and MGM Grand Macau at 7%.
