AUSTRALIANS GAMBLING AWAY MONEY

A study shows that Australians have gambled away 13.3 billion dollars (6.78 billion US) in its last financial year where the losses are equal to 931 dollars (475 US) per person. Gambling turnover was over 10 percent to 113 billion in 1999/2000.

The figures were released by the Tasmanian State Gaming Commission, which also highlighted the nation’s increasing dependence on the industry. The source of revenue were poker machines.
