VIDEO POKER BAN IS DIFFICULT

Apr 30, 2001 7:59 PM

The General Assembly passed legislation last summer to slowly eliminate the video gambling machine industry. According to North Carolina sheriffs, it will be difficult and time-consuming to regulate because there are more than 10,000 legal machines and an unknown amount of illegal machines.

Legislation, filed last week in the House, will help raise money in order to help sheriffs enforce the new laws. The legislation placed restrictions on the machines, which included permanent moratorium on new machines filtering into the state.
