A gambling pact between the Chitimacha tribe and the state of Louisiana has been approved by The Bureau of Indian Affairs. The gambling pact eliminates a tax the tribe had to pay the local governments.

The tribe had agreed to pay a seven-year, $10.5 million “community grant” which essentially equals the 6 percent payments that were made within the last four years prior to the new compact.
