Italy vs. Spain (PK, -135, 2o -120 LVH) (11:45 a.m., ABC): The Azzuri (Italy) found a way to advance, frying the French in their final Group C match to earn this date with Spain, which has looked as good as anyone offensively in this Euro 2008. This will be an extremely entertaining game to watch and the first goal will dictate who gets to control the pace. As ESPN analyst Tommy Smyth said “No one is better at protecting a one goal lead than Italy,” so be wary of blindly betting Spain because of the way they played in the Group stage. Look at Germany, who looked a bit average in the Group stage and then upset and knocked out Portugal and the best soccer player in the world – Cristiano Ronaldo – on Thursday with a 3-2 win to advance to the semis.
A very small play on SPAIN may be the best thing to do in this one but remember the world “small” as this one should be a one-goal game that could end 1-0 or 2-1. We’ll pass on the total as the 2 is spot on for this exciting showdown.
