Contests going on

If you’re a Kentucky Derby bettor who wants to compete against other bettors instead of the house, there are contests going on in Las Vegas.
Fiesta: The Fiesta race book will be holding a Triple Crown handicapping contest. It is a free contest consisting of the Triple Crown races, the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. There will be mutual payouts for first, second and third.
So let’s say you play a horse to win, place show, and it wins, pays out $10 for first, $5 for second and $3 for third. You get 18 points. And let’s say, your horse comes in second place and place is $40 and show is $30; then you get 70 points.
The contestants that have the most points accumulated after the three races win. First place wins $500, second place $300 and third place $200. If there are ties, the prizes are split.
If you pick one horse and it is scratched, you can pick an alternate. Participants have to come to the book for each Triple Crown race.
Signup for the contest lasts until Saturday 1 p.m. This is the first year for the contest.
"We’re hoping it’s a huge success," said Fiesta race and sports book director Bert Cirincione. "It’s something different for our horse players."
As for the number of people Cirincione hopes will enter the contest?
"We’re looking for as many as possible," he said.
Arizona Charlie’s West: Currently, Arizona Charlie’s West, has a Win and Quin handicapping contest. That contest, is on this Wednesday, and will be on Derby day as well.
For the Derby, you pick two horses and an alternate. There is a point system, which parallels money payouts. Top four finishers are paid. First place wins 60 percent of the pot, second place gets 25, third 10 and fourth 5.
