HILTON TAKING FAVRE SERIOUSLY

Brett Favre may or may not be returning the NFL, but the Las Vegas Hilton is for now assuming he is. Thus, the Green Bay Packers have been taken off the board regarding over/under regular season victories, Games of the Year and the opening week line against Minnesota on Monday, Sept. 6.

The only odds on the Packers you’ll find at the Hilton are those for winning the Super Bowl (down from 25-1 to 15-1) and the NFC (9-1 to 6-1) when Favre hinted he was getting the itch to unretire. Green Bay, however, may not be willing to scratch that itch – especially Aaron Rodgers.

ROSE FACTOR: The NBA Draft didn’t alter the 2009 title odds for any team except Chicago. Taking Derrick Rose dropped the Bulls from 40-1 to 20-1 at the Hilton.

FED-EX STILL DELIVERS AT U.S. OPEN

Roger Federer may be a bit down after losing the French and Wimbledon tennis finals, but he’s still No. 1. The LV Hilton made Federer a 6-5 favorite to win the U.S. Open (Aug. 25-Sept. 7), the last Grand Slam event of 2008. Rafael Nadal, who beat Federer at both the French and Wiimbledon, is second choice at 2-1 followed by Novak Djokovic at 3-1. Andy Roddick, at 20-1, is the closest to that trio.

On the women’s side, Australian Open champ Maria Sharapova is the 5-2 favorite despite early exits at both the French and Wimbledon. Serena Williams, the Wimbledon runner-up, is next at 11-4 followed by the current world’s No. 1 Ana Ivanovic at 13-4. A good buy would be Wimbledon champ Venus Williams at a generous 9-2. Other top contenders are Jelena Jankovic (10-1) and Svetlana Kuznetsova (20-1). GT staff.
