Palace Station hosts DRF/NTRA qualifier

Jul 8, 2008 7:06 PM

By GT Staff | Horse players will have a chance to demonstrate their skills and collect some nice payouts when Palace Station this week hosts its Daily Racing Form/NTRA handicapping contest.

The event, scheduled to start at 10 a.m. on Thursday, is also a qualifier for the NTRA National Handicapping Championship qualifying event, set for Dec. 13 at Red Rock Casino Resort.

The contest is the second such competition hosted by Station Casinos in the past three weeks.

"We had another qualifier on June 21 at Red Rock Casino and it produced a big turnout," said Bert Cirincione, race and sports manager at Palace Station. "We’re expecting a similar crowd here."

The contest requires just a $40 entry fee, all of which will be returned to players in the form of prize money. In addition, the top 10 finishers will receive entries into the December tournament.

The contest format is simple: players will make a total of 10 mythical win and place wagers. Five races specified by the race book are mandatory and five races are played at the player’s choosing.

Points will be awarded based on the $2 win/place pari-mutuel payoffs. The winner will have the highest mythical bankroll at the end of the contest day.
