by GT Staff | San Diego Padres at St. Louis Cardinals (-140, 8, Las Vegas Hilton SuperBook) (Cox Cable 96): The Padres have been offensively challenged in 2008 and were tied with MLBs second-worst record (37-58) at the All-Star break. St. Louis is in a tough pennant race in the NL Central with their rival Cubs and the Brewers and will no doubt be thing sweep against lowly San Diego in Busch Stadium tonight.

Although spirits may be down at Anheuser-Busch with Belgians buying a majority interest in the brewer, St. Louis loves its baseball and is 26-21 in the Gateway City. Just 14-28 on the road, the Padres average two losses for every three-game road series and some of thats against their paltry NL West counterparts.

On the mound, Greg Maddux (3-8, 3.90 ERA) gets the pill for SD. The veteran right-hander has been great as of late, but his offensive support has been Mark Buehrle-like, or almost non-existent. Maddux hasnt got a win in his last 12 starts but in seven of his last 10 starts, hes allowed less than two runs.

For the Cardinals, Braden Looper (9-7, 4.25) gets the call and he has a similar fate as Maddux, not winning since June 24. The righty threw 112 pitches in his last start, a 4-1 loss to the Phillies. A couple of runs might serve Looper in the future as well.

Confucius say, Redbirds over Friars. CARDINALS -140.
