THE SHIMMY FROM JIMMY
Mention the name Jimmy Vaccaro and you first think of his legacy in the Race & Sports Book industry. GamingToday also remembers Jimmy for his past contributions under his column "As I See It." Well, Jimmy V will be featured again in GT starting next week with a new column, "Vaccaro’s View." Unlike his first writings, this column will deal more with industry matters in a way of educating bettors on the system. Maybe JV will throw us a pick now and again. Anyway, we look forward to having Jimmy each week.
A HIPPER MGM: My sources at MGM give Jay Rood high marks for what he’s done in less than a month in the book. Overnight lines are up earlier and there’s an entire board set up for 5-inning line info. Way to help us bettors, Jay. – Mark Mayer.
DALLAS CALLING, THERE’S MORE C-USA
Yes, one Dallas resident and GT subscriber thought we forgot an entire division of Conference USA last week. Well, we didn’t exactly forget. Lack of space caught up with us. With this week’s edition focused on the Mountain West, we’ll sneak in the other six C-USA teams here. First and foremost, remember that Rice was 11-0 to the over and just once yielded less than 29 points. Also, Tulsa may have played over their heads a year ago, finishing 9-4 overall and just 3-9 against the spread.
Houston had similar stats (8-5 SU, 5-7 ATS), but the Cougars are a program on the rise. Tulane, Texas-El Paso and Southern Methodist combined for just eight wins. As for SMU, why would June Jones leave a cushy job at Hawaii for a program that once received the death sentence? But since the Mustangs are in Dallas, we wish them the best.
