1-0 eases Del Mar

Getting Rich with Saber by Richard Saber | NFL preseason games are finally here to bet on and they couldn’t have come sooner. I need relief from the horse money lost at Del Mar.

The NFL preseason can be just as hazardous as betting Del Mar. Sometimes, though, a good trend or two can be found. Don’t go crazy now that parlay cards and college football are just a few weeks away.

Thursday, Aug. 7

Giants +3 at Lions (33): Detroit gets a shot at knocking off the champs in front of the hometown faithful. Look for a big effort even if it’s practice. Lions stunk it up last year in preseason so they really want a win here. LIONS.

Jets +3½ at Browns (35): This total looks high. The Jets played very low last year going 3-1 under in four preseason games. Browns look to be the team to beat this year in the AFC North with Steelers looking down and Cincy players mostly in jail. BROWNS, UNDER.

Ravens +5½ at Pats (35): Patriots have lots of distractions. Ravens have a new head coach. John Harbaugh will want a good effort in his first game. RAVENS, UNDER.

Chiefs +3½ at Bears (33): KC has gone just 2-6 ATS in preseason with Herm Edwards. BEARS.

Saints +3 at Cards (36): It’s beautiful. At home by five, some pasta, a bottle of wine and hopefully a live parlay. Cards were 0-4 SU last year in preseason. Saints 3-1 ATS in last four as preseason road dog. New Orleans had no defense last year so look for a show of "D" early on. SAINTS.

Friday, Aug. 8

Eagles +3 at Steelers (33½): Steelers were 4-1 SU last year in preseason. They hate to lose at home especially to cross-state rival Philly. STEELERS.

Seahawks +3 at Vikings (34): I can’t find the winner, but don’t see much scoring. UNDER.

49ers +3 at Raiders (33½): Niners under HC Nolan have gone 5-1 SU / ATS at home in preseason, while going 0-6 on the road SU and 3-3 ATS. It’s the opposite with Oakland, which last year went 2-0 SU / ATS at home compared to 0-2 SU / ATS on the road. RAIDERS.

Saturday, Aug. 9

Bills +5 at Redskins (36): Great spot for the Bills with Redskins back on the field in six days off the Colts on national TV in the Hall Of Fame Game. Buffalo looks to have a legit shot in the AFC. Bills have gone 4-0 ATS last four as a preseason road dog. BILLS (BEST BET).

Colts +3½ at Panthers (35½): Indy in second road game in six days. PANTHERS

Falcons +6 at Jags (34): Atlanta wants to put everything that happened last year behind them. The have a new HC in Mike Smith and may give the Jaguars a little game here, but I wouldn’t bet on it. Jags are a stellar 14-6 SU and 13-7 ATS in preseason under Jack Del Rio. JAGS.

Bucs +2 at Dolphins (32½): Tony Sparano is the new HC of the Fish and not Tony Soprano. Therefore the guns won’t come out if they’re losing and the fix won’t be in. Still we side with the Fish, who really want to get an early win. DOLPHINS.

Rams +3 at Titans (33½): Rams just 2-6 ATS in the last eight preseason games with most of them going under the posted total. TITANS, UNDER.

Broncos +3 at Texans (34½): At one time Denver was gold in preseason with Mike Shanahan, but that was then. Now is now! This could be the year for the Texans. Make no mistake, they want to start off with a win at home. TEXANS.

Cowboys +3 at Chargers (35½): In Wade Phillips’ first season as coach, Dallas was 0-2 on the road in preseason. That trend may continue at San Diego. CHARGERS.

Monday, Aug. 11

Bengals +3 at Packers (36): I won’t be watching this game. Don’t want to hear all the garbage that they would be talking about, Brett this, Brett that. I will just bet the over and hope for a lot of scoring. OVER 36
