Cannery's back with its fantasy football contest

Aug 5, 2008 7:07 PM

By GT Staff | Fantasy football fans can have some fun and win $5,000 weekly in the Cannery Casino Resorts second-annual Cannery Resorts Fantasy Football Contest.

The cost is $25 per entry – which enters the contestant for all 17 weeks of the NFL’s regular season – and up to three entries per person are permitted. The smart player will sign up before Sept. 1 and take advantage of the early bird special and buy two entries and get a third one for free.

Offered exclusively at the Cannery Casino & Hotel (2121 E. Craig Road, North Las Vegas), the Rampart Casino (221 E. Rampart Blvd., Summerlin) and the soon-to-be-opened (Aug. 28) Eastside Cannery Casino & Hotel on Boulder Highway, the contest was selected "Best Football Contest" by the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s 2008 Best of Las Vegas poll.

"We created this contest to cater to the fan who loves fantasy football yet has no way to play it through legitimate gaming," Eric St. Clair, Cannery Race & Sports Book Director said. "This contest offers fantasy football fans a fun and potentially profitable way to play."

During each week of the regular season, 12 head-to-head matchups are set for skill-position players (QB, RB, WR, K) with the winning NFL player – the one who scores the most points in that matchup based on the traditional fantasy football scoring system – receiving one point. Weekly winners will get $5,000 and the contestant who picks the most winners for the entire season will also take home $5,000.

The weekly cash winners are considered "fantasy royalty" and gain entry into the fantasy playoff and a shot at the $10,000 grand prize, won last year by Don Rea.

"I’ve participated in many Fantasy Football Contests, but I really enjoyed the Cannery Casino resorts version," Rea said after winning. "It was simple to understand an awful lot of fun to take part in."

Contestants can also qualify for the playoffs without winning a weekly prize. Finishing in the top 50 for the season among players who didn’t win a weekly prize will earn a "wild-card" berth into the playoffs.

There will be no weekly winners during the playoffs. The top 10 finishers will receive prize money from the $125,000 prize pool, with the winner taking home that cool $10,000 top prize.

Entries can be made at the sports books of the Cannery and Rampart casinos seven days a week between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
