Baseball Betting Tip of the Day Dodgers at Giants - 08-08-08

Aug 8, 2008 7:52 PM

by GT Staff | Los Angeles Dodgers (-115, 8o -120) at San Francisco Giants: A classic under series as I’m sure GT totals expert Sid Diamond will attest to. Dodger totals will definitely be affected by the acquisition of Manny Ramirez so betting unders is an even trickier proposition now in their games. The pitching on these two teams has been impressive as of late so it becomes sort of a push in that respect for this total.

On the bump this evening in San Francisco for Los Angeles is Brad Penny. In 2007 Penny was an All-Star and had the best season of his career but this year it’s been a different story. The right-hander, 5-9 with a 5.88 ERA, has struggled and has lost his last seven decisions before being placed on the Disabled List. In rehab at AAA Las Vegas, Penny’s fastball reached 98 mph on the radar gun but this start will be the real indication of how far he’s come and how far he has to go to try and get back to his old form.

Pitching for the Giants is southpaw Barry Zito (6-13, 5.40), a crafty veteran who threw eight shutout innings, allowing just three hits in his last start. Zito’s confidence is slowly returning after a horrible start in 2008 and much grief from baseball pundits.

Despite the high ERA’s and the question marks surrounding these two once glorified pitchers, runs are always seemingly scarce in Dodgers-Giants games, one of the fiercest rivalries in all of baseball. Let’s go low. UNDER.
