Watch what you read, except my stuff

Back in the Saddle by Johnny Hale | Carol, I know that you love to read all types of books – cook books, health books and now poker books.

Now, I do think all poker players should read, and I even recommend that they include poker books on their list.

But then I remember one of the Oklahoma sayings, "He who can do it, gets it done. He who can’t do it talks about getting it done, and teaches and writes books about doing it."

I will say to you and the folks that I seem to be taking a swing at myself when cautioning to be careful about what’s in print. I have written for years in the poker media about life and the living of it, along with poker and the playing of it.

And I’ve submitted a few hundred of these "Back in the Saddle Again" visits with you folks in the oldest gaming newspaper in the world, GamingToday!

Plus, I’ve written a book "The Gentleman Gambler," which is available if you e-mail me at [email protected]. The book is in its third printing.

I write a little bit about how to play, but most of the book is just old poker stories. I give you my "Oklahoma Double Your Money Back Guarantee" that it will not hurt your poker game!

I am writing a couple of books that I hope to have out soon.

I will be returning to the Green, Green Grass of Home (Oklahoma) this week to do what I can to help out with a wonderful fundraiser at the FireLake Grand Casino in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

I am going to visit the legal and not so legal poker rooms in Oklahoma to invite all of our poker playing friends to come over to Shawnee and join us at the FireLake poker room on Saturday, Aug. 16 to play in the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Charity No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament.

We will be playing with a $100 entry, which will create a cash pool for the winners. And, there will be charity $25 re-buys made available to the generous poker players of the world.

The charity event will be well supported by the media and poker playing Oklahoma folks. We will help out by presenting a check from "The Seniors" Charities to the MDA. The funds come from the generous poker players of the world and the wonderful casinos that support "The Seniors" Charities.

Myself and Carol will be made bounties in the poker tournament. The poker player who gets the last of our chips will collect the bounty put on us by the management of the FireLake.

I will be making a challenge to those present to play me in a heads-up match of Oklahoma Gin Rummy or a freeze out poker tournament. The proceeds will be going to the MDA charity.

Now you folks know that I never brag, but when you arrive on Aug. 16 at the charity tournament, I will lay 2 to 1 that you cannot beat me in penny pitch, Oklahoma gin or any poker game you want to play.

Let’s have some fun and raise money for the MDA!

Poker Tip of the Week

I am reminded of what Mark Twain once said, "Be careful when reading health books. You may die of a misprint."

I say, "Be careful when reading poker books. You may damage your pocketbook."

Please, always remember you can only take to the Big Game in the Sky the chips that were given away down here!

Until next time Stay Lucky!!
