It will be a few weeks before we know the full impact of Brett Favre joining the NY Jets, but the Caesars Palace book has taken a more optimistic betting stance. The projected total wins are up from 7 (over -160) to 9 (over -140), while the odds to capture the Super Bowl improved from 45-1 to 25-1. There was no change with Green Bay (8 wins over-150, 12-1 SB odds).

"The Jets had already been one of the busiest team in the offseason and looked to be a team on the rise before getting Favre," said Chuck Esposito, director of race and sports operations at Caesars Palace. "It’s really great for us since the Jets were already booked twice on Monday Night Football, where we draw big crowds."

Esposito said early betting on preseason games is high, outdoing baseball.

Lucky’s moves fast. Nevada’s newest Race and Sports Book venture began Las Vegas operations Aug. 1 at the Plaza and in some 10 days has made a free, $100,000 NFL contest that’s called "The Progressive Carryover," The contest will be featured at both the Plaza and Terrible’s Casinos.

The format is to pick the outright winners of each NFL game over the 17-week regular season. There will be a weekly prize of $6,000 to the person who picks every team correctly. If there’s no winner, the $6,000 pot carries over and will be added to the prize pool for the next week. If there is more than one weekly winner, the prize will be divided equally.

Entrants must be 21 or older. Cards must be turned in 9 a.m. each Sunday.
