Athletics, Tigers made for cynics

Here are three teams that could make you money this week.

NY Mets: This is a positive report. The Mets have won six of the last seven and living without injured closer Billy Wagner. The pitching has allowed just 16 runs during the streak, while supported by 40.

This week the Mets are home against Atlanta and Houston, both sub-.500 teams.

Oakland: The A’s have gone south in a hurry, scoring two runs or less in 13 of their last 18. No wonder, Oakland is 3-15 during that time. With RHP Rich Harden sent to the Cubs and 3B Eric Chavez spending most all the year disabled, this is not a team to back anytime soon.

Detroit: Ditto for the Tigers, which jettisoned Gary Sheffield when he reverted back to his "me against the world" attitude. Detroit was in the AL Central picture until being swept back-to-back by Tampa Bay and the Chicago White Sox. Detroit is 5-12 in its last 17.
