Betting on futures is one of my favorite hobbies. Not stock market, but sports futures.

One of my favorite is betting on over / under wins, especially in college football. This past weekend I took all my birthday money (61 last Sunday) and made a few plays that will keep me interested the entire season.

First, I played on Ohio State over 10 wins. This one was a freebee. If the Buckeyes happen to beat Southern Cal on Sept. 13, then that bet will be a winner. I could still win this bet even if the Buckeyes lose. They should sweep through their Big Ten opponents.

I was looking at Georgia, ranked No. 1 in both the AP and Coaches polls. The books have the Bulldogs listed at 9 or total wins. If this is true, how can they be ranked at the top? I had to pass, but it is food for thought.

I also bet on Notre Dame over 7. I think the Irish are a cinch to get at least that many. If Notre Dame gets a little lucky (which has been known to happen) an eighth win is certainly possible.

Parlay cards will be rolling off the presses next week and most books already have the numbers up. If I were running a sports book, you would have seen the cards come out this week. I guess that’s why I’m not running a book.

Anyone looking for some high payouts on parlay cards should head over to the Hard Rock. There you will find the highest payoffs on parlay cards in the city. Jamie Shea, the Hard Rock’s race and sports supervisor, has some gamble in her.

Just one short line on the Olympics: Major kudos to all our fine Olympians especially to the great USA swim team winning all those gold medals.

You know, I love a little conspiracy theory. Well, my cousin Lou came up with one on the swimming. He told me that he actually believes that the Chinese made the pool shorter. His wife thinks he’s nuts.

Thursday, Aug. 21

49ers +5 at Bears 37½ I should have quit after the Skins beat the Colts. It’s been all downhill since, but there is no quit in me as long as I have a few bucks in my pocket to make a comeback. I will try and get back on track with a team I just never seem to win with. Not the 49ers, who are 0-7 SU on the road. BEARS.

Friday, Aug. 22

Eagles +3 at Patriots (38½): The Pats usually shine in Game 3 of the preseason as they get ready to make their run. They have gone 5-1 ATS the last six years in Game 3. PATS (BEST BET).

Titans PK at Falcons (34½): Titans have gone 10-1 as a dog in 11 during preseason. Tennessee is also 12-3-1 ATS on the road. TITANS.

Texans +3½ at Cowboys (41): Texans on a roll and have gone 5-1 ATS in dog roll. TEXANS.

Packers -3½ at Broncos (38): The Pack has shown no offense whatsoever. BRONCOS.

Saturday, Aug. 23

Browns NL at Lions (NT): No more "Dawg Boys" for me. LIONS.

Giants NL at Jets (NT): Now this one should be very interesting. GIANTS.

Redskins +2½ at Panthers (36): Skins have already won three games in preseason and have looked good. REDSKINS.

Saints +2 at Bengals (42½): The Saints defense could wake up the lackluster Cincy offense. OVER.

Jaguars PK at Bucs (35): Jags have been a very good dog in preseason going 7-2 ATS last nine as an underdog. JAGS

Chiefs +3 at Dolphins (33½): If this game goes over I will go fishing the rest of the year. UNDER.

Steelers +1 at Vikings (37): Since I will be watching this game, I will bet over and root for the Steelers. STEELERS / OVER.

Ravens -1 at Rams (35½): Neither team can put many points on the board. UNDER.

Cards +2 at Raiders (37): I favor the Raiders at home just a little in this game. RAIDERS.

Sunday, Aug. 24

Bills +3 at Colts (37): Bills have gone 5-0 ATS last five as a road dog. This will be the Colts get ready game as they will rest all their starters next week. Look for Indy to get the win. COLTS.

Monday, Aug. 25

Seahawks +3½ at Chargers (39½): Seattle’s offense has been very good. The Chargers rested their first stringers last week, but will get them ready this week. OVER.

Next week: I will be discussing my main college football games.
