Rogers Centre, Toronto
Red Sox -140 at Blue Jays (8½)
We’re pulling a Sid Diamond today and going for a total. Boston comes off a stunning 11-0 beating yesterday in Toronto and won’t find the going easier here against A.J. Burnett, arguably the hottest pitcher in the majors. Toronto is 8-0 in Burnett’s last eight starts and the hard-throwing right-hander is 22-8 lifetime at the Rogers Centre. Burnett is 16-9 overall, 3-0 in his last three outings and has 178 strikeouts.
Boston counters with its win machine Daisuke Matsuzaka, who is 15-2 with a stellar 2.77 ERA. Dice K is 3-0 with a 1.35 ERA in his last three starts and has had a penchant all season for escaping dicey situations. Matsuzaka is 3-1 lifetime against Toronto so both sides look good in this key matchup for the Red Sox. With the total surprisingly high, we’ll avoid the side and play the 8½ in what shapes up as a pitcher’s duel. UNDER.
