Maybe they just like Paula Deen's cooking

by Ray Poirier | A Kansas review board chose privately-held Harrah’s Entertainment to build and manage its Sumner County casino.

The Harrah’s folks plan a $535 million casino resort with several restaurants including one that will feature the cooking of popular Food Network star Paula Deen.

With four votes, out of the seven being cast, Harrah’s Entertainment beat out Penn National Gaming and Marvel Gaming, both of which had chosen sites near the Wellington exit of the Kansas Turnpike.

Penn National didn’t lose out completely, however, since the company was chosen for the Cherokee County casino, a far-less attractive spot. Penn National was the only bidder.

Harrah’s selection for the Mulvane city casino still faces a lawsuit from an Indian tribe that alleges Harrah’s is violating a non-compete clause it signed after terminating an agreement with the tribe to manage a casino in another community.
