by Kevin Stott | Station Casinos once again tops the list of contests with variety and value, offering something for everyone this football season.
On tap this season are three different contests: Great Giveaway, Last Man Standing and The Challenge.
In its most popular contest, the Great Giveaway, contestants select NFL winners – without point spreads – for the 17 regular season weeks of the league. The cost is $25 per entry, but players who buy two entries will receive a third bonus entry for free. Any contestant who purchases more than two entries will be disqualified. Contestants may use Boarding Pass points or Station Bucks for payment or partial payment.
What’s great about the Great Giveaway is that all contestants who compete in all 17 weeks of the contest and do not win any weekly or end of season prizes are entitled to receive their entry fees back in the form of free slot play (FSP) at the end of the season.
Entrants must be 21 years of age and must have a Station Casinos Boarding Pass card to participate. To sign up for a card, simply go to your local Station Casino.
The contest is open to all Station Casinos locations, including the Palace Station, Boulder Station, Sunset Station, Santa Fe Station, Green Valley Ranch and Red Rock. In November, entries may be purchased at the new Aliante Station, but those entrants will not be eligible for end of season prizes.
Contestants must make picks on every game for all 17 weeks to be eligible for End-Of-Contest prizes. The End-Of-Contest prizes for the contestants that choose the Most Winners are: 1st place: $100,000 or a $230,000 house; 2nd: $25,000; 3rd: $15,000; 4th: $7,500; 5th: $2,500; 6th-10th: $1,000; 11th-100th: $200 Free Slot Play; 101st-200th: $100 Free Slot Play.
Unique to Great Giveaway is rewarding the contestants who also pick losers. Those End-Of-Contest prizes for contestants that pick the Most Losers are as follows: 1st place: $100,000 or a $230,000 house; 2nd place: $12,500; 3rd place: $7,500; 4th place: $2,500; 5th place: $1,500; 6th-10th place: $1,000; 11th-100th: $200 Free Slot Play; 101st-200th: $100 Free Slot Play.
The contest also features its famous "Fiddle in the Middle" promotion where contestants that go .500 for the season (equal winners and losers) will split a $200,000 aggregate prize. If no one ends at exactly .500, the contestants closest to that mark will all split the prize money.
As far as weekly prizes, Station also has something for both winners as well as losers. Contestants who select the most winners in a week will win a new BMW 328i or a cash prize of $20,000. If two contestants tie for the most wins in a week, the contestant who chooses the closest combined score of that week’s Monday Night Football (or Sunday Night if applicable) game without going over will win their choice of taking $10,000 or a BMW. The other $10,000 will go to the other tied contestant.
Contestants with the most losers in a week will battle for that $10,000.
Last Man StandingAnother popular Station contest is Last Man Standing, another weekly NFL contest that features a sweet winner-take-all prize pool of at least $50,000. The cost is $25 per entry and contestants who purchase four entries will get a fifth one free. The deadline is 9 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 7.
Contestants in the Last Man Standing will make one weekly selection against the point spread from games listed on the Pro Football Contest Card – available on Tuesdays – which will feature half-point spreads, ensuring no ties. It’s simple. If the selection submitted wins against the point spread, then that entry will remain active for the following week of the contest. If the selection loses, that entry will be eliminated from the contest, which begins Sept. 7 and ends Dec. 28. A contestant’s first selections must be made prior to the last kick-off each week.
The ChallengeThe contest for the serious handicapper is The Challenge, a contest that costs $1,000 to enter (three- entry max) and offers contestants a chance to make five selections off a weekly selection card against the Station Casinos line, which may include one NFL total and one college game (management will select the five games).
Contest winners will be determined by the total number of points accumulated during the 2008-09 college and pro football regular season with each winning selection counting as one point and ties (pushes) counting as half a point. Selections must be made before 9 a.m. weekly at your local Station Casino.
All Challenge contestants are eligible to compete in a four-week mini-contest during the final four weeks of the NFL’s regular season. The contestant accumulating the most points over these final four weeks will win $12,500 (6.25% of total pot).
Contestants who sign up before Sunday, Aug. 31 at 11 p.m. will be eligible to receive $100 in their Sports Connection Account, providing their account shows wagers totaling $500 or more by Oct. 1.
Like Last Man Standing, The Challenge returns all contest monies with the first place prize being a minimum of $100,000 (50% of total pot based on 200 entrants). Here are the other guaranteed payouts: 2nd place: $20,000 (10%); 3rd: $10,000 (5%); 4th-5th: $2,500 each (2.5%); 6th-10th: $4,000 each (2%); 11th-15th: $3,000 each (1.5%); 16th-20th: $2,500 each (1.25%). The final actual amount of these prizes will be determined by the number of contestants.
As a special bonus to anyone who can select 67% winners (53 points) in this contest, Fletcher Jones Imports will reward the contestant with a brand new Mercedes Benz C-350!
