by Ray Poirier | Now that the ballot initiative language has been approved regarding the construction and operation of casino in Clinton County, Ohio, the battle intensity has grown.
Ohio Roundtable, the business group that is opposing the casino in a location that is about equidistant between Columbus and Cincinnati, raised the question of the specified tax structure in the initiative. They are concerned that if an Indian casino that is exempt from state taxes were ever built it would scuttle the initiatives tax disbursement plan.
Supporters insist that the tax rate of 30% could drop to 25% if another casino is built but that the new tax language would have to be approved by the voters.
The casino will be built and managed by Lakes Entertainment Inc. (LACO).
