Take a bow Palms, Jerry's

Getting Rich with Saber by Richard Saber |

There will be parlay cards galore for this weeks college football games. I dont think you will see any preseason NFL on the cards as most teams will be resting their starters or just playing them for one series.

At the Palms, Race and Sports director Fred Crespi is pulling no punches with the parlay cards and showing no fear. His cards will be out Tuesday evening in what many feel is a real bold move. Way to go Fred and his top notch crew!

On the other side of the city, Jerry Nugget head man Mark Dufty also steps to his own drum. Mark has been putting his cards out on Tuesdays for two years. He runs a top notch operation for those in North Las Vegas and boasts some of the highest off the board odds in the state on parlays. Plus, the food is good.

Our Week 1 award for a good job done goes to Mark and Fred.

I was going to give the award to the Gaming Control Board for lifting the stupid ban on cell phones in the race and sports book area, but only after monitoring it for a year before deciding whether to extend it. They want to see if anyone gets out-of-state calls to make bets.

If you live in Vegas or visiting and have a friend that bets sports, they will call and have you make a bet. The books and the state (which collects taxes) should welcome it. I know they are concerned with the unsavory people calling and laying off bets, but these people dont need Vegas. They have offshore accounts that offer much better lines and juice.

Still, they did lift the ban so they wont get the Boob of the Week award, which is on hold as we get into the football season.

My gas changing guy is still working hard changing the prices almost daily. At least its in the opposite direction but why have that .9 at the end and not just 3.75 a gallon?

Here are some early college football selections for the upcoming week. Dont forget to make a 10-team parlay every week. You never know.

Thursday, Aug. 28

Vandy +3 at Miami, O: It opened Miami -1, but was bet up I just dont see the move. The RedHawks are 1-6 ATS as the chalk the last seven in that situation. VANDERBILT.

Friday. Aug. 29

Temple -7 at Army: Temple opened -2. We know Army is stretched thin with all the turmoil around, but that is one big line move. Temple has played under the total seven straight times on the board. The 44 total is nice ARMY / UNDER.

Saturday, Aug. 30

Akron +26 at Wisconsin: I will "copper" this too. Wisky opened -28 and bet down. The Badgers have won and covered five straight openers, plus are 25-1 overall at Camp Randall Stadium. WISCONSIN.

B. Green +12 at Pitt: Panthers ended the regular season last year beating WVU and knocking them out of the BCS title game. Look for that big win to carryover into this season as Pitt looks loaded. PITT.

Va Tech -10 at ECU: (at Charlotte): Pirates HC Skip Holtz has done a good job with East Carolina especially when they are the dog, going 17-6 ATS in that role. ECU.

Tulsa -14 at UAB: The Golden Hurricanes were on a pointspread barrage a few years back, covering 15 of 18 at one point. Now, they are 6-14 in their last 20. UAB.

FLASH: Weekly update on Steubenville High: The mighty Big Red ran their regular season winning streak to 51, crushing Indian Creek 34-0 last week.
