DEL MAR

(Closing day is this Wednesday. Fairplex opens on Friday with the hot-riding Pedroza owning that track. On Wednesday, Sept. 24 the Oak Tree Meet at Santa Anita will open its doors.

LAUREN C: Got off at almost 10-1 in her last start, but got stuck down on the rail. Came on like gangbusters late and just did fail by less than a length. Just another drop down comebacker held her off.

SPEEDIN EXCESS: First-time starter was one live item as she was bet early and hard. She shot to the front like a rocket, opened up two lengths in the stretch but just did fail when another first-time starter came roaring down the lane to get up by a neck. $$$

HOT N’ DUSTY: Was on our HTW list following her third place finish at Del Mar on Aug. 3. She was bet as the 2-1 favorite, but was reluctant to load and very rank. She got in tight, was checked hard into the turn and lost her chance.

KIZZY’S CHAOS: Took a flyer on this guy at almost 19-1. He just did get beat a nostril and I almost broke mine when it cost me a huge Pick Three. This one will be worth a bet at what should be another good price when he returns for trainer Cerin.

UNUSUAL JAIL: I just loved this guy in here, but he broke slow. After looking to be making a big run he had to be steadied hard into the stretch. He split rivals and came on strong, but way too late. Next time, a visit to the winner’s circle.

SOLAR MISS: Broke on top, but then was taken back to last. She came out for running room on the second turn and five wide into the stretch while under a hand ride. She gained the lead in deep stretch and was under a long hold at the wire. This girl is a real up-and-comer and may be seen in a stakes race on the grass at Oak Tree. $$$

MAJORMOTIONPICTURE: Wow! This first-time starter was just hammered at the window in what was a very tough race for straight maidens. He broke dead last from post position 1, then moved up fast on the rail and just would not give it up. He looks big time. $$$

TOMMYS LUCK: Recent HTW winner won for fun again on the move up. Has the looks of a horse that will rattle off a few more.

ROADSIDE REST: Just ran a fast-closing third to Tommys Luck after being dead last until the top of the stretch. This guy was really motoring late.

UNUSUAL HEATHER: Had no shot against the odds on Quisisana and should have finished second. Instead, he got one of the few poor rides by Rosario.
