Lou D’Amico, a veteran of more than 20 years in the Las Vegas casino industry, is rumored to be a candidate for the race and sports position at the new ‘M’ resort. The ‘M,’ slated to be finished next spring, will be 10 miles south of the Strip past South Point and about 10 minutes from Jean.

"You know, I’ve heard that rumor too," said D’Amico, who has been weighing his future opportunities since leaving his position at the Plaza when Brandywine converted the race and sports operations to a Lucky’s operation.

"I am hoping some team will pick me up like Brett Favre," said D’Amico, who has worked at Caesars Palace (13 years), the Las Vegas Hilton (three years) and the Plaza (four years). D’Amico is 61 and a native of Brooklyn, N.Y. – MArk mayer

Dan Shapiro, Lucky’s director of marketing, announced that the weekly Progressive Football Contest prize doubled to $12,000. No perfect tickets last week so interested parties can sign up for free at any Lucky’s or Terrible’s sites. I know Carolina’s Dante Rosario cost a few parlays with that catch to beat San Diego..

Favorites held the edge in college football, though the margin was cut to 3 (43-40-2) after the second full weekend of games. The dogs had their first winning week, going 23-19-2. This week, three spreads caught our eye. Michigan surprisingly opened as a 4-point favorite over Notre Dame and quickly bet down to even. Ohio State now +10½ at USC and the Jets a 3½-point early favorite over New England. Pats may well have been -6 or 7 with Tom Brady. – MArk mayer
