Gulf coast casinos were spared heavy damage during the recent visit of powerful Hurricane Gustav. Except for minor damage and a bit of flooding, the casinos that were heavily battered by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, reported only a mild impact.

However, the storm did cost the operators a usually beneficial weekend of business, coming as it did on Labor Day.

And, although the properties were able to open their doors rather quickly, they now face the potential of another hurricane blockbuster, Hurricane Ike.

After slowing a bit following its sweep over Cuba, Hurricane Ike took dead aim on the Louisiana-Texas coastline, once again placing some casinos in jeopardy.
