International Game Technology has filed a lawsuit against Shuffle Master Inc.

IGT claims patent infringement over Shuffle Master’s “Double Platinum” three-reel slot machine. IGT claims the algorithm that controls the game's possible outcomes violates their Telnaes patent. The Telnaes patent allows millions of possible outcomes on three-reel machines.

The suit came about when Shuffle Master placed Double Platinum machines inside the Excalibur Hotel Casino in Las Vegas. Shuffle Master denies that the game violates any patent.

Shuffle Master and IGT have collaborated on numerous machines in the past.

Joseph Lahti, chairman and CEO of Shuffle Master said, “We will continue to have an amicable relationship with IGT."
