UNLV VICTORY A NUGGET FOR JERRY’S

UNLV’s upset win in OT over nationally-ranked Arizona State was great for Vegas books and sports book directors who happen to be alums. "It was great to see both as a fan and at Jerry’s Nugget," said Mark Dufty, the astute race and sports director/UNLV grad. "It was a nice way to end a pretty good day for us."

The USC result was biggest winner for the bettors, but college football was a day for the house. In the NFL, the house was a big winner with the Indianapolis Colts following an 18-15 comeback win. The majority of betting money went on the Minnesota Vikings. The house also had a nice win with Tennessee.

NEARLY $78K AT STAKE IN PROGRESSIVES

Progressive jackpots in football are going through the roof. Chuck Esposito at Caesars Palace said the number has soared to $59,955 for Week 3. Meanwhile, Daniel Shapiro at Lucky’s (at Plaza and Terrible’s in Vegas) announced the carryover for its football contest has climbed to $18,000. Good luck to all.

Fourth quarter scoring was the dominant theme for Week 2 play in the NFL. The Green Bay-Detroit matchup produced 40 points, including the final 24 by the Packers in a 23-point win. The first eight games on the rotation totaled 138 fourth quarter points, yet the UNDER went 5-3. There was also a 38-point second quarter in the San Diego-Denver game. Overall, favorites held a 6-5-1 edge (two games went off at pick’ems). For the year, favorites are 16-11-1 ATS. – MArk mayer
