Well, that’s what we’re here to tell you. The Marlins are baseball’s hottest team (good to know for bettors), having won nine straight to pull within 4½ of Philadelphia in the NL Wild Card chase with just nine games left. The odds of making the postseason aren’t good, but the Marlins do have the means to make things even more interesting.

Florida defeated the Phillies last night and has two games left with Philly in the series. Following road games at Cincinnati and Washington, the Marlins close the regular season with three at NL East leading New York. The Marlins have lost four of the five previous series this year with the Mets.

As for now, Florida is up $430 this week for bettors, who wager $100 per game. The Marlins have earned a profit of $1,960 per $100 bet for the season, second only to the Houston Astros in the NL. Which brings us to Maybin who in five games since being called up from the minors, has gone 9 for 11 with a homer, two RBI and a robust .818 batting average.

While Florida is rising, Milwaukee continues to fall. The Brewers are 5-14 since Aug. 31 and have gone from Wild Card leaders to two games behind Philadelphia. More importantly for bettors, the Brewers are $310 in the hole this week. Milwaukee has nine games left – two at Cincinnati and the final seven at home with Pittsburgh and Chicago. The Brewers are just 1-6 in their last seven meetings against the Cubs.
