Video poker machines that were shut down because of a voter referendum in 1996, have returned to parishes where they are still legal.
The number of establishments with video poker, 2,839, is nowhere near the 3,656 before the shutdown. However, truck stops have made a sharp rebound.
The shutdown reduced the number of the mini-casinos from 110 to 88. But as of March 31, there were 108 truck stop locations and applications for 11 others are pending before gambling regulators.
