Dr. Bob promotes sports book action that wins

Vaccaro’s View by Jimmy Vaccaro | Promoting the sports book is tricky. You want the environment to create it without having to spend a lot of money.

We all do our share – contests, free drinks, VIP sections and so on. The natural way is to just push the action. Dr. Bob has been doing his share the past few years and doesn’t get the credit from the books that he deserves.

Forget records. We all know if he is picking more winners than losers. The books are seeing third generation numbers with games last Saturday like Iowa, Florida State and San Jose State moving a few ticks. This usually happens on Thursday, a dead day.

We are looking for a few tricks such as no vig and higher payouts to get people at least in the door and I’m onboard with that. However, we need more action coming from the idea of just putting up your cash without any work except to write the ticket and make sure the money is straight.

You need business. An outfit out of Boston called Score moved some games 12 points and actually had a car with a sign on it riding up and down the Strip saying this certain game was over before it started. Things went well when they sent out a Peach Bowl line on the West Virginia-Georgia Tech game.

They did all their homework, sending out the favorite at 6 and it climbed to 14. The only thing they did not check was the weather. You got it, monsoonville. The game drew three times in normal money and tickets for the game.

Doc’s had buzz and people guessing for a week about the Big 10 Game of the Year. People were guessing all week long. None of this cost the books anything, but it brought people and attention.

If you are following Moses to the mountain and betting the second and third generation number, bring your platinum card. I believe Dr. Bob helps in ways some can not see. Like the Three Stooges short, "Men In Black," (Calling Dr. Howard, Dr. Fine, Dr. Howard) it would be good to show up Monday to Wednesday.
