Chalk Talk College Football Betting Tips by Kevin Stott |
Thursday, Sept. 25
SMU at Tulane (-16½):
Outscored 91-14 in its last two games (L TCU 48-7, L TT 43-7), SMU apparently needed a Dickerson (Eric) or a James (Craig) instead of a Jones (June). All signs point to Tulane here as the Green Wave is 6-1 ATS
in their L7 vs. the Mustangs, are 9-2 ATS HOME OFF DD LOSS
(Thanks Marc Lawrence) and are 13-3 ATS as HF’s LESS THAN 17 POINTS OFF A DD SU WIN
(ULM). Confusing? Then just bet the favorite chalkhead. And the FIRST HALF
(-9 apprx) looks awfully enticing too. TULANE. (BEST BET).
USC (-23½) at Oregon State:
USC, college football’s top team, along with Oklahoma and Florida, has more running backs than Aunt Jemima has syrup. After losing in their last trip to Corvallis, expect Pete Carroll’s boys to be primed for the Beavers. The Trojans are 19-6 ATS in their L25
vs. OSU. USC.
Saturday, Sept. 27
Michigan State (-8) at Indiana:
With one of the nation’s top rushers in Javon Ringer, MSU is a tough draw for any opponent. Indiana lost to Ball State Saturday and is just 3-8 ATS its L11
in this Big Ten series. Good teaser material also with the Spartans teased down to -1. MICHIGAN STATE.
LSU (-24) at Mississippi State:
The Tigers are 15-1 SU and 14-2 ATS
their L16 against Mississippi State. Last year LSU romped 45-0 in the college season’s opener. A low-level (smallest denomination) play here. LSU.
NIU (-6) at Eastern Michigan:
A great team to bet against, Eastern Michigan (0-3 ATS) has been outscored 82-41 (TOL, MD) in its last two contests while this season’s Huskies are much improved over the 2007 version. Note the ROAD team is a perfect 8-0 ATS
in this matchup since 2000. NIU.
Purdue at Notre Dame (-2):
Think the linesmaker has the wrong favorite here in the Hoosier State tussle so why not tease the Boilermakers up to +9, take them on the money line in a parlay with fellow dog San Jose State, and also throw a pence or two on them getting 2 – if that line even lasts… PURDUE.
UAB at South Carolina (-11):
All South Carolina games seem to go way under…
(Reality: 34-0, 24-17, 7-14 – average 32.0 ppg). Yeah, they do. UNDER.
Kent State at Ball State (-17):
David Letterman’s alma mater is pretty darn good in football as Saturday’s upset win over cross-state rival Indiana reveals. The Cardinals are 3-0 ATS
and outscored by an average to the up Sinbad. And Kent State (2-9 ATS LY, lost last seven of season SU and ATS!)
. The numbers don’t lie. And our stats guru Noland Perry has Ball State as 28.5 points
better than Kent State (158.6-1301.1). BALL STATE.
San Jose State at Hawaii (-3):
Another dog for Chalk Talk readers here. Although Hawaii has dominated lately, this is a down year in Honolulu and the Spartans are 8-3 ATS
their last 11 in this series. SJS took the Warriors and Colt Brennan to overtime LY before losing. SAN JOSE STATE.
North Texas at Rice (-18½):
The Mean Green is just 1-12 ATS
in its last 13 games ATS in September and is one of two teams in college football still yet to register a sack. This is a good spot on the schedule for the Owls, as Rice has just played Vandy and Texas. RICE. (BEST BET).
BONUS: TEXAS, AUBURN, BRONCOS, EAGLES.
