USC Trojans -25 ½ at Oregon State Beavers

Southern Cal has looked good in its two victories this season, a blowout of Virginia then a somewhat easy win over Ohio State, which stayed close for a half before collapsing. Oregon State has been flying much farther under the radar. They lost their opener to Stanford in a game they could easily have won, were out-matched on the road at Penn State, then easily defeated a retooling Hawaii squad two weeks ago. That gives both teams an extra week to prepare for this Pac-10 match-up. The point spread has steadily climbed since opening last Sunday night, but the value appears to be with the underdog Beavers. Corvallis can be a strange place to play for visiting teams, especially those perceived to be superior squads. Although USC has won five of the last six meetings, Oregon State won on this field two years ago, 33-31, and have covered the spread three straight times at home (two outright wins and an 8-point loss). If weather becomes a factor, it could further level the playing field. With a solid home bias, we give Oregon State a chance to keep this one close, with an outright win not completely out of the question. Oregon State +25 ½
